White House Arboretum was declared a Level 4 Arboretum by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council (TUFC) in 2013.

TUFC is the ultimate governing authority on arboreta in Tennessee. TUFC has established 4 levels of arboreta: Level 1 requires the least amount of trees and Level 4 requires the greatest number. Each level requires varying amounts of criteria to be certified, with level 4 requiring the greatest amount.

Generally, all levels need tree labels at each tree, which spell out the common name and the scientific name. Trees within each arboretum are to be cared for in accordance with current arborist procedures and standards. Arboreta must meet numerous other requirements which are not mentioned herein.
